Self-portrait – The Journey into the Unknown

My first painting in Switzerland, created in a small village, is titled “Selfportrait – The Journey into the Unknown.” This self-portrait is the result of artistic expression after a year of residence and the decision to leave my familiar home in Germany and venture into the unknown.

The painting, rendered in black and white, reflects the complexity of my emotions. The closed eyes are a striking feature symbolizing the uncertainty and transition between the past and the future. The gaze is turned inward, towards my own thoughts and feelings, while a sense of hope resonates within the darkness.

The contrasts between light and shadow on the canvas mirror the duality of the moment. The decision to move to a new country carries both the challenges of saying goodbye and the excitement of a fresh start. The absence of color intensifies the emotions, allowing the viewer to delve deep into the emotional landscape of the painting.

This self-portrait is not just a snapshot but an artistic processing of my personal journey. It serves as a reminder that every closed gaze also signifies an introspective look, emphasizing inner strength and belief in the possibilities that the unknown holds. “Journey into the Unknown” is not just an image; it is also a reminder of the courage required to embrace new experiences and find the potential for growth and development within change.
